"Plights" has been part of an ongoing project "Instability, Employed" since 2011.

Instability, Employed

000001“Instability, Employed” considers instability not as a flaw, but as the fundamental condition of both perception and creation. Drawing on the logic of indeterminate systems, it approaches imbalance as a point of origin rather than deviation.

The approach is to examine the illusion of balance as a constructed assumption—one that conceals continuous motion and uncertainty. In response, it proposes the realisation of enclosed spaces in which instability can be engaged, rather than avoided.

Within these conditions, authorship dissolves, and the work becomes a field of exposure rather than possession.

"Plights" refers not to distress, but to a condition.
A performer is introduced into a situation that resists comfort, familiarity, and habit.

Comfort is interrupted.
Familiarity is suspended.

The resulting responses are neither directed nor illustrated.
They emerge as consequences of the condition itself.
The performer inevitably becomes a co-author of the intellectual model through which those consequences are revealed.
