Artifact III

Neither memory nor knowledge defines who we are.
Yet we are so eager to leave behind at least something.
An object.
A trace.
A testimony.
Something desperately expected to survive both memory and forgetting.
The question is not whether artefacts preserve memory.
The question is whether preservation achieves what we think it does.
